Ladies, I need your time and your talent if you are willing to help out. For the past year I have been very busy cross stitching for different charities. I joined two charities where cross stitchers would stitch squares which would then be handed over to quilters to turn them into quilts. Some of my squares went into quilts for sick children and some went into the Sandy Hook Memorial quilts which will be given to the families of the victims of that tragedy. I've really enjoyed doing this. But I also met lots of other ladies who would love to help out with this kind of charity but they didn't have the time to devote to large quilt square sized pieces or they do things like knit and crochet instead of cross stitching and quilting.
So the wheels in my head started turning. I wanted to organize a stitching charity group that would include cross stitchers, knitters, and those who crochet and do embroidery. I also wanted the items that the charity would make to be small so the stitchers wouldn't get overwhelmed or burnt out. I also needed them to be very practical. So I thought about knitted and crocheted wash cloths and bathroom and kitchen towels that have either been embroidered or cross stitched with a band of Aida at the bottom.
Ok, so I had the "what," now I needed the "where." I have been brainstorming with friends and thinking and praying and planning. I needed places to be the recipient of these items. I couldn't very well organize a group of stitchers with no project to work on. I needed this group to have a direction to go into. So I have sent out emails and made phone calls. This morning ~ I got my very first "YES!" ~ From the Ronald McDonald House at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital! So this will be our first project. They have various bathrooms and kitchens in their facility that will be able to use these kinds of stitched items and they said they would be grateful to have them.
So now, my every loyal readers who have stuck with me through thick and thin ~ I need the "Who" for this project. I need stitchers ~ cross stitchers, knitters, those who crochet and do embroidery. I have started a FB page to be the "home base" of this charity group. It is called, "The Legacy of Dorcas." Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/517186495030473/
As of right now, I only have four members (one who doesn't show up in the group because she does not have internet access) and the promise of one more later tonight. I would love to see the group have ten members before starting this first project. But I will be happy and grateful for any at all that are willing to give of their time and talents.
Also, just so you know, there will be many more projects past this first one. Once we have finished the items for the Ronald McDonald House at Vanderbilt, we can branch out to other RM Houses across the country. I also have some children's homes to contact as well as another place similar to the RM Houses called the Hospitality House. So this is not some fly by night, here today and gone tomorrow group. It has been planned for and prayed over for a long while. I hope that "The Legacy of Dorcas" will live up to it's namesake for years to come.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Thank you. ~~~
